Joanna is currently in her second year of a 4-year Wellcome Trust Dynamic Molecular Cell Biology PhD, after graduating from the University of Bath with a Bsc in Molecular and Cellular Biology in 2016. Her research interests lie in understanding the key pathways and processes fundamental to cell health and function and the role of these within disease development. For her PhD, Joanna is studying the role of autophagy within cartilage and joint cell health and the impact of autophagy dysregulation on the development and progression of osteoarthritis, combining her project across two lab groups; the Hammond Lab and the Lane Lab.

Outside of the lab, Joanna is involved in her local church and loves playing netball, going rock climbing, cooking for others and reading a good book.
